MUMBAI: Swiggy and Flipkart are laying off employees, adding to the woes of the startup sector which has been grappling with a funding winter.
Swiggy is letting go of about 350-400 employees or around 7% of its workforce as it attempts to check costs and move towards profitability, sources said. Flipkart is also letting go of some 1,000 employees or 5% of the workforce as part of its annual performance review process, sources said.
Swiggy tech teams and a section of the customer care department will be the most impacted by the move, sources said. This is the second round of layoffs at the firm which is preparing to get listed on the bourses. In Jan last year, Swiggy had cut 380 jobs.
